Go bike packing in beautiful environment and spend the nights in a tent! On this bike packing adventure you get to explore the amazing forests of Tiveden on two wheels. You bike through magical forests, pass by exciting rock formations and dark ponds. The area also hosts cosy coffee shops and restaurants. The nights are spent in a tent and you wake up hearing the birds sing.

The tour starts in Askersund, a cute little city that you easily reach by train and bus from Stockholm and Gothenburg. An alternative could be to start the tour from the train station in Hallsberg or Laxå. Together we go through your equipment which includes fatbike and bike bags. If you have rented extra gear, like tent, sleeping bags and kitchen gear etc, we also make sure that you are familiar with it all. You will also get an information package with maps and descriptions. A food store can be found nearby if you need to buy something.
Program
Day 1 – Towards Tiveden, 30-35 km
Leave Askersund and head towards Tiveden. You will mainly follow gravel roads with little traffic, and there are also a few options to choose single-track. The landscape is a nice mixture of farmland with grassing cattle and red cottages, and beautiful forest areas with glittering lakes. Maybe you will pitch your tent next to one of these lakes on this first night?
Day 2 – Explore Tiveden National Park, 30-50 km
After making breakfast to the sound of singing birds you continue biking towards Tiveden National Park. You will see some famous rock formations while biking through the area but why not park your bike at the main entrance and go on a hike to have a closer look at this spectacular area. There are also challenging bike trails in certain parts of the park. On a warm day we suggest a visit to the beautiful beach Vitsand (white sand) and maybe a dip in Lake Trehörningen.
Continue to the villaget Sannerud located on the shore of Lake Unden. Here you find a small food shop and restaurant. When evening falls you can place your tent next to a dark pond a fall asleep to the sound of the wind.
We kindly remind you that you are not allowed to bike on most of the hiking routes in the national park.
Day 3 – Tivedstorp, Fagertärn and heading towards Lake Vättern, 30-40 km
Waking up in a tent on summer day is such a wonderful experience! After packing your bike bags you will follow winding gravel roads but also get the chance to challenge yourself along smaller forest roads and single-tracks.
Take a historical walk around the old buildings of Tivedstorp and why not treat yourself with coffee or lunch! Then head towards the Nature Reserve Fagertärn, famous for its rare red water lilies, normally in bloom in July. There’s a hiking trail around the lake if you want to get off the bike saddle for a bit.
From Fagertärn you will bike parts of the route along the old pilgrim route The Monk’s Trail towards Olshammar, located at the shore of Lake Vättern. Here you can choose to add some luxury to the tour and stay at a cosy Bed & Breakfast with a nice meal out of local specialities. It is also possible to spend the evening on a kayak trip in the archipelago.
Day 4 – Back to Askersund, 25-30 km
You have come to the last day of your biking adventure and it’s time to turn towards Askersund. Chose a biking route along Lake Vättern and visit the castle of Stjernsund. Or, head back towards the forest for some beautiful gravel roads.

2040 SEK per person
The price includes; fatbike during four days, bike bags for frame and/or luggage holder minimum 39 L. Maps, information about bike routes and tour suggestions. Bike pump, basic tool.
What kind of bike is a fatbike?
The bike included is a fatbike, a mountainbike with oversized tyres that fit perfectly on any type of terrain. With a fatbike you can choose if you want to roll along winding gravel roads or if you rather challenge yourself on charming and partly tricky single-tracks.
Add camping equipment to the tour
Camping package with tent, sleeping bag, mattresses, outdoor kitchen (gas or fuel, 1 bottle included) with pots, plate/cup, cutlery etc for 3 nights/4 days: price example 1400 SEK/2 persons.
“Luxury light”: spend your last night at a cosy Bed & Breakfast in Olshammar. Enjoy a 2-course dinner in the evening and a good breakfast before you set off biking. Price example 2325 SEK/2 persons.

Culture and sights along the tour
Stjernsunds castle, 6km south of Askersund, is considered to be among the most beautiful castles in Sweden.
The birth room of the poet Verner von Heidenstam in Olshammarsgården in Olshammar and the Birgitta Church, founded by the patron saint of Europe; Saint Bridget of Sweden.
Kullängsstugan, 8 km west of Askersund, is a log building from the 17th century, built for a wealthy family of the time.
Tivedstorp has a history that dates back to the 15th century when Finnish settlers moved here to become farmers.
Dammtorp outdoor museum is a collection of old buildings and a good example of old building techniques.
