Enjoy some fun fatbiking along the Monk’s Trail, through the beautiful forests of Tiveden all the way to Olshammar at Lake Vättern.
The bikes will be delivered to Lake Bosjön in Tiveden and from here the tour passes both forest paths, small roads and some gravel roads. The bike tour from Bosjön to Olshammar is approximately 15 km and if you think the forest paths are too difficult you can choose to stay on the gravel roads.
Once you arrive in Olshammar you find Olshammarsgården where you can treat yourself with some coffee or food. Why not add some culture to your outdoor day and and learn more about the poet Verner von Heidenstam or Saint Bridget of Sweden (Heliga Birgitta).
During the biking you will pass by the old Monk’s well (Munkakällan) and small tarns with poetic names like Läppapuss (kiss of lips) and Höstnatten (autumn night). You will reach some higher points with nice views over the great forests areas. A couple of kilometres before Olshammar you find Lake Södra Asplången where there is a shelter and good possibilities for a refreshing swim.
The history of The Monk’s Trail dates back to the Middle age when monks from the monastery of Ramundeboda walked through the Tiveden area, all the way to Olshammar. From here they continued by boat, crossing Lake Vättern and then continued walking to the monasteries Alvastra and Vadstena in the county of Östergötland.
Practical information and reservation
We meet at Lake Bosjön in Tiveden and spend some time getting to know the bikes and preparing them for you. You will get maps and some information and suggestions before you start biking.
Do you want to make the tour longer? You can also start at Tivedstorp (6-10 km longer) or closer to Askersund (to be agreed).
We recommend this as a full day tour, approximately 5-7 hours so that you have time to relax and enjoy. You can choose to end the tour in Olshammar or bike along the gravel road back to the starting point at Lake Bosjön. If you choose the latter, you have the possibility to also visit Lake Fagertärn, know for it’s red water lilies.
